Nina Bale wields authority over mortality itself, yet she spent twelve months tethered to the Ford household after their patriarch ruptured a geomantic vein and bartered his remaining days for her shield. With the contract expired, the Fords prepare to discard her like a spent tool.
Their cold expulsion halts when the formidable Cork dynasty materializes on their knees, pleading for the same power to rescue their own ailing leader before his appointed hour arrives. Both houses now vie for her allegiance, each aware that her decision determines which bloodline survives.
